In March, SpotXers took to the mountain air in Vail, Colorado for the Digiday Publishing Summit, rounding out our sixth year as a premier partner.
The event brought together premium publishers to discuss the transforming advertising landscape and how they’re diversifying their revenue. Attendees were able to tackle everything from measurement and data, to how publishers are transforming into platforms.
A highlight of the event took place on stage where Geoff Spence, regional VP of business development at SpotX, and Josh Kreitzman, SVP of publishing and programming at Jukin Media, uncovered how digital publishers and linear broadcasters are competing more closely than ever.
It’s no secret that they are redefining the future of TV and developing a new TV ecosystem as the industry experiences a convergence of digital and linear. The session also highlighted:
- How Jukin Media created linear TV channels and distributed their content across OTT environments that include virtual MVPDs (Sling TV, fuboTV, Philo), Roku, Samsung TV, and more
- The biggest challenges faced in developing an OTT strategy
- How digital publishers can enlist partners to gain a better understanding of the processes and best practices surrounding linear ad monetization, content distribution, and audience measurement

Outside of on-stage presentations, the hallways were buzzing as publishers discussed the challenges and opportunities within the market. Some topics included what partners are doing to help solve and support revenue diversification, programmatic, sustainability, and inventory value.
“Advice for publishers this year at Digiday: One, I’m hearing that there is a slew of different ways to make money and complications to deal with,” explained Christo Owen, VP digital platforms at Viacom. “From audience controls, to the major social platforms, we’re hearing clear-cut, passionate approaches to how you do business.”
