SpotX partners with Chinese beauty platform Meitu to scale video programmatic ads
SINGAPORE, 3rd August 2020 – SpotX, the leading global video advertising and monetisation platform, has announced a partnership with Chinese beauty tech company Meitu Inc. to implement programmatic video advertising across its suite of mobile apps.
Under the terms of the deal, Meitu will be able to monetise video ad inventory sold on its key platforms BeautyPlus, Beauty Cam and Meitu Xiu Xiu via SpotX’s supply side platform and ad server technology, and secure advertising growth beyond its home market of China.
Meitu’s portfolio of selfie enhancement beauty apps and social sharing platforms attract 250 million monthly active users worldwide, and has been downloaded on 1.8 billion unique devices. Meitu apps are popular among women aged 18-35, and six billion photos are shared on Meitu apps every month.
Since expanding outside of its home market in 2014, Meitu now has 112 million monthly active users outside of China, with Indonesia and Thailand ranking amongst it’s top markets. Meitu App, Beauty Cam, MakeupPlus and multiple apps have frequently achieved top spots in app store rankings.
Meitu’s powerful AI features such as portrait illustration tool Andy the Artbot, and AR motion filter Animate, have driven much of its success in markets such as Thailand and South Korea.
The selfie is a worldwide cultural phenomenon fueled by near ubiquitous social media usage, where more than half of all adults engage in some form of photo editing before posting, fueling rapid growth in the photo editing app industry. Indonesia and Thailand are ranked among the top 10 countries in terms of social media usage.
“As consumer behaviour and trend change it is crucial for advertisers to understand their changing needs. SpotX’s partnership with Meitu is an exciting opportunity for brands to reach a generation of active social media users who express themselves with selfies and photos, ” said SpotX Managing Director of Asia, Gavin Buxton. “ We are thrilled to be selected to help scale Meitu’s video ad monetization capabilities and support their ambitious growth plans.”
